Just Stamp My Papers!
Although a Notary Public is in fact a public servant, we will not or should not just show up and stamp your documents.
When a mobile Notary arrives to your home or place of business, they should:
1. Identify themselves and request identification from you.
2. Have a Notary Journal to document the transaction.
3. Review the document to ensure there are no blanks AND make sure that the document does in fact need to be notarized*
4. Explain exactly what you are swearing to or acknowledging during the transaction.
5. After the transaction is complete, they should provide you with business cards for future contact or questions.
*If your document requires notarization there would be a space that says or looks like the following:
State:
County:
Sworn and subscribed to me_____ on_____ by_____
Notary Public (Signature & Seal)
OR
State:
County:
On______ before me ____ the Notary, personally appeared_____ known to me, or provided satisfactory evidence to be the person whose name…
In witness whereof, I hereunto set my hand and official seal.
Notary Public (Signature & Seal)
If neither exist on the document, the Notary Public should have their own Jurat/Acknowledgement or at the least, have a stamp with this wording so that your document can be notarized properly. If they just “stamp” their seal on your document..you’ve been had.
